One of the the subtle things in this game is this weird belief that the truth is helpful, it's very often not. For example, after sueshep killed Arkidy, it might SEEM to make sense to try and tell town what happened, but really, why do so, to stop them from wasting investigations, perhaps this seems laudible, far better, to try and make a delicious trap for mafia or, (more realistically, rogues) to fall into allowing a valiant self sacrifice for the good of the town. Honesty, as will shock noone doesn't do much good and a used up vigilante known to mafia is not especially valuable, even saved. To be clear, this was not a completely obvious play, but, especially with rules like these, lying can be good.
