Everyone here should make sure they have two personalities they can use: 1. Mafia personality. Be a cold-blooded killer. Get NPs to scout for you. Before you make kills, privately rehearse with an NP assistant. Usually, I would suggest tactics for getting people to tell you their role, but it's just too hard this game, so it's more likely to give you away than anything.
2. Townie personality. This should be how you're thinking most of the time. A reasonable townie isn't very afraid of death, especially lynching. However, they are shocked or surprised by kills or fake kills. Have a healthy paranoia about being killed. Protest your innocence, but definitely DO NOT act afraid of being lynched. Only mafia have a fear of getting lynched. Everyone should have a fake role. Everyone should behave like a townie, and not tell anyone their fake role. Really, don't hint at it. You can often convince people to trade roles with you, but this game, I would definitely not try it. There's too high of a chance they're trying to catch mafia.
Additionally, I propose that we have codephrases to signal to each other that we want the other person to switch personalities. ie, a word you can slip in to what you say to tell the other person "Please act completely normal and non-mafiaish, regardless of what I'm doing," a word to signal "Please support my argument, regardless of how sketchy it seems", and a word to signal "Please go full-on murderer, regardless of the consequences". It's often difficult to tell in conversation what you want them to do. The first two words should be quite subtle, while the the third can be pretty blatant.
