I'm guessing we reached a consensus about counting stalkers through their stalkees, so this thread is to do that.

I am being stalked today (day 1).

(Which made my day and I'm honored <3)

I think you also get the honor of naming your stalker.

Post subject:  Re: Stalker count

I am being stalked today by Raye Penber (AKA stalker 2).

I get the vague feeling that the stalkers didn't actually randomize their targets; I wouldn't be surprised if there is stalker overlap. On further consideration though, I see no reason for people being stalked to not just announce it every day.

My guess is that exactly one of the stalkers responsible for the above is mafia. Otherwise, mafia have forever lost the ability to impersonate stalker perfectly and safely, which seems silly.

I'm trying to think of ways to use this info, but no immediate ones are coming to mind, sadly. Perhaps at some point in the far future it'll be wise to have stalkers reveal (and if the wrong number reveal, we check the most recent death with shovel and then conclude that everyone left is virtually confirmed town).

Until a death happens, this seems to be the only stuff we have to strategize on :P

They can claim to have stalked the same person as someone else.

I think for Day 2, we should assign each stalker approximately 5 people, and ask them to choose randomly among them. That way, if multiple stalkers targeted the same person on day 1, they'll have a good chance of separating on Day 2.

I like this idea. I made an entry into the spreadsheet for lists of names (just picked them alphabetically). Will swap out the names of people who seem to be inactive closer to the end of the day.

Can you post the assignments on this thread, so that the stalkers are more likely to see them (and less likely to have an excuse for having not.)

This isn't a directive to the stalkers to stalk these people in order, right? Wouldn't the Mafia then be able to predict which of their number is being stalked, and have that person not do anything suspicious that day? It seems to me that the stalkers should stalk each of the people they have been assigned in a random order.

Post subject:  Re: Stalker count

Ignore me: the spreadsheet does in fact specify that the stalkers should choose one of their targets to stalk at random.

Post subject:  Re: Stalker count

csvoss, remember that someone being stalked knows their being stalked.

Regardless, the point is to have the target chosen randomly. The upside of this is that if multiple stalkers chose the same person on Day 1, there's now a chance that they'll choose different people on day 2, so we can tell them apart.

Oh yeah, once we are (more) sure of stalker numbers and can dictate their stalkings, priests from then on can avoid having the next day's stalk targets on their sinner lists. However, this is a problem if a mafia stalker is told to stalk a mafia target.

In fact, this is a problem in general - with (likely) 1/3 of stalkers being mafia, someone claiming to be stalked is actually not super well alibi'd. Can we patch this? Are stalkers just this not useful?

Post subject:  Re: Stalker count

I think that stalker's a lot better near end of game. If there's 1 mafia and 1 sk, and someone stalks one of them by random chance, the number of kills made per day will decrease, which can, at the very least, delay game a little bit. Further, this can potentially lower our search space if we get to lategame and a stalker exists. Having said this, a mafia can now potentially emulate this, but it still delays game if they do.

OK, so either a stalker broke protocol, forgot to stalk on day 1 (silly, should've just claimed to have stalked themselves), or a mafia is involved here.

Unfortunately, the three sets of people who were supposed to be stalked each contain a dead person or an outed SK, so we can't conclude anything definitively if no one in a set speaks up.

Cool! So at least Yuno Gasai has her shit together!

Possible important thing is to poke andytsai (I know that nastya knows him) because he is hosed and new. I would think that Raye Penber wouldn't have chosen to stalk ijc, because there was significant time between his death and day end.

lambhen's post suggests that some stalkers actually just forgot to pick a target for today. :(

No, stalkers just can only stalk any given person once. So fmajluf7 is being stalked by a different stalker (presumably Raye Penber).

Important question: can mafia also only stalk each player once?

Yes. As per the rules, "[The mafia stalk] ability works identically to the Stalker role above."

Hey everyone, just a note:

Anyone can claim to be stalked, so someone claiming to have been stalked is not in anyway an alibi.
