Spirits' goals are to help their spiritmasters (the people who killed them). In particular, upon death, a person coming back as a spirit loses all previous goals and gains their spiritmasters' goals. This means that you shouldn't trust spirits to have the same goals they had in life. In particular, spirits are probably mafia-aligned, because killers are usually mafia. How can you trust me? Sanjay attempted to smite me and failed. Margarita witnessed this. Sanjay is now my spirit, which allowed me to view the spirit role.

Also, would like to add - although Spirits CAN conspire against their spirit masters for optimization, THEY LOSE A PERMANENT HALF POINT IF THEIR MASTERS DIE. Therefore, this is unlikely.

Weird. That's the opposite of what happened to me. Maybe it's because you "killed" someone via them smiting you, so their ghost feels friendly toward you b/c they know you're good or something?
