You are Light Yagami and Misa Amane, AKA Kira. Your job is to rid the world of criminals. And as it turns out, there are a lot of them. The people around here are constantly crushing homes beneath the feat of mecha-robots, killing people with the pretense that they are alien parasites, or most horrible of all, being affiliated with the yakuza. Organized criminals are the worst, which is why, through your carefully arranged schemes, you need to kill them!
Luckily, you have the perfect tool at your disposal: the Death Note. Upon writing a person’s name in the Death Note, they will die of a heart attack in 40 seconds. For some reason, you only seem to be able to write one name per day in it, although if you write a person’s “role” next to their name, you can get an extra kill!
Unfortunately, killing people via writing their name in a notebook doesn’t make you untraceable. L, along with some of the world’s best investigators, have the ability to figure out which people couldn’t have written down a particular victim’s name. Also, you can’t kill someone who is already about to die -- that would be like having a name written down twice. And you have this weird tendency to get up close and personal with people you’re about to kill, so that might cause you to be discovered as Kira if that happens.
You can also recruit a 3rd Kira at any point. Probably a businessman who wants to get ahead of shady rival companies; for someone like that, having the ability to kill would be an offer they couldn’t refuse!
Finally, you seem to have a fan who also seeks justice. Some guy named Teru Mikami who literally worships Kira, and who would like nothing more than to join you. He’s going by a fake name now though, so you don’t know which of the people around here he is.
