Can someone who makes a free kill with set a trap make a Bloodthirst kill after it in the same day? (The other order is certainly possible.)

No. You can only make a bloodthirsty kill if you make no other kills at all. You must declare before you make a kill if you are using "bloodthirsty", except you don't need to specify that you're using it if it's the only way you could have made the kill.
