Game rules:
“Roles” and “Goals” are separate. Some players may not have one or more of these.
At the beginning of the game, all mafia have only the role “Mafia”.
“Goals” may have “Victory Conditions” and/or “Game End Conditions”. If any player in game satisfies their Game End Condition, then the game immediately ends.
When the game ends, any player who has completed their Victory Condition wins.
Additionally, if there is only one surviving player, then the game ends.
You are 100% loyal to your current Victory Condition(s), even if you believe your VC will change in the future. Future You may be a mind-controlled bastard.
If you have multiple VC, you must achieve all of them to win.
If you have no VC, you win if you are dead.

“BANG” kills the target, who must hand over all items to the killer.
“KABOOM” kills the target, but all items are destroyed.
If you die, please tell me ASAP.
Items may not be destroyed unless they specifically state otherwise.
Day end and execution works normally, except items are redistributed secretly.
The list of all players will be public, but not the list of starting items.

Townspeople have the following goal:
TOWN GOAL:
GE: If all mafia are dead and at least one person with the town goal is alive, the game ends.
VC: If the game ends and all mafia are dead, then you win.

The following are elected positions (with normal election rules):
Mayor: Gets 2 extra votes, may make one investigation each day, and once per mayor may count the number of mafia remaining.
Village Idiot: The Village Idiot loses all goals (if removed from office, does not regain any goals).
Police Officer: Doubles the use of any information-gathering power you have. Can replace any “BANG” with “KABOOM”.

Meta-game rules:
You may put your hand on your head to show that you are giving a required rules explanation. For example, after going "Blop" on someone, you might put your hand over your head to tell the victim what effect it has on them.
Faking incants or faking hand-over-head are not allowed.
Ghosts should not talk to anyone about game.
Provable randomness, cryptography, deadman switches, NP shenanigans, and anonymous communication ARE ALLOWED.
You may not show anyone a computer/phone screen, forward a screenshot, or repeat/copy verbatim communication from god (Exception: private rules clarifications may be copied verbatim). You may print out a computer/phone screen to show, and you may copy verbatim communication with other players.
You may create additional forum accounts (no sharing acounts)
You may request the creation of additional subforums to use.
Everyone with access to a subforum knows about all of the players who have access to that subforum. You do not need to worry about eavesdroppers.
Technical note: Accidental posts in the wrong forum may be deleted, but otherwise posts may never be edited or deleted, even if you have permission to.

Meta-Meta-game rules:
There are no roles that allow you to create your own role.
This game is designed to be more “strategic” than “silly”.
This game has multiple factions.
You may privately ask God for rules clarifications.
You may metagame about what God would or would not have put in game.
God may make use of vacuously true statements.
Game knowledge you have may be overruled by powers that explicitly overrule your game knowledge.
If a power says "You get to make investigations", you should expect that your results are truthful and not random or incorrect. However, others may have powers that interfere with your investigations.
Some people were told that "God may lie on rare occasions," but after deliberation, this will not be the case.

Additional rule:
All items have basic descriptions. Anyone who holds the item finds out the basic description. If you give an item to someone, you should know the description associated with this item, and may give it hand-over-head. Unless you know otherwise, the description of a starting item is the description you received at game start. The description is not guaranteed to be an accurate assessment of what the item does.

Addition:
Starting items do not lie about what they do. They may have additional effects, however.

Clarification:
Is the following correct:
If a player is elected viliage idiot and then die, they win. So if a player is elected village idiot, they will want to kill themself. So electing mafia village idiot is good for town.

That is correct logic.

Additional clarification:
Unless I have told you that you have the town goal, you do not have the town goal.

Hmmmm, if the Village Idiot is mafia, then when their win condition no longer guarantees their loyalty to the mafia, they have no incentive not to rat out all the mafia from an "odds of winning" perspective.

Is this correct? It seems broken.

To be fair, they wouldn't have an incentive to rat out the mafia either. All they care about is dying, which is a fate that town and mafia could equally bestow upon them. Basically, a Village Idiot former mafia is a kingmaker (though I guess only in one direction). Given that their role is completely neutral on the matter, I suspect that the player would prefer to not simultaneously betray their former teammates and break game for everyone. So it is 100% possible for it to break game, but it's likely that any non-asshole wouldn't do so.

Of course, they would want to immediately blackmail the mafia so that the mafia would kill them. So, they would use up one of mafia's kills, which is still useful.

They could also just kill themselves. There's not usually a rule (though who knows in this game lol) that says mafia have to agree on a kill target, so they can just kill themselves right at day start before the mafia have a chance to use their daily kill. (Right? village Idiot only loses their goals, not their powers, right?)

I think they kill themself as soon as elected, using a scheme or a trap (if those exist) or whatever other power ifneedbe.

Yep, you guys are right. For some reason I was thinking that village idiot would lose their powers too. But I can't imagine a situation where the former-mafia village idiot doesn't commit suicide at the nearest opportunity.

So, I think this is a very useful alternative to lynching people; if the player is mafia, it has the same effect as lynching them, but if they aren't mafia, it leaves them alive (though not town-sided). Additionally, if the player is mafia, we use up the mafia's daily kill. I think it would be to get some partially completed petitions for village idiot for most people in game. Not like 1 signature away from completion (which mafia could push through to completion), but more like 5 signatures away, which is still close enough to get completed as quickly as a lynch vote.

The only downside is that (presuming aok kept the rules from previous games) we would have to re-make ~30 new petitions after a village idiot is elected. This, of course, incredibly obnoxious.

Aok, just to check, what are the petition rules for this game?

They are the same as petition rules normally are.

I have given all registered users posting access in town square. This is intended as a pre-approval for anonymous proxies.
Ghosts and NPs may not post in Town square. Except for accidental posts, no one is allowed to delete or edit posts in town square.

Subforums have "Moderators". All "Moderators" of a subforum have to approve for anyone to be given access to a subforum, or for members to be promoted to "Moderator".

Tied execution votes will look back for who got the most votes on previous dates. All players who are still tied will be executed.
